Shihan David Sheeger began his martial arts training at World Oyama Karate Headquarters in Manhattan in 1986. He was a member of the World Oyama Karate Full Contact Team from 1992-1997 and competed nationally and internationally in the Light Weight Division. He thereafter served as tournament coordinator of World Oyama knockdown tournaments in New York. He has also been a referee in international knockdown tournaments and served as chief referee in knockdown tournaments in New York. He began teaching regularly at World Oyama Headquarters in 1998.

After the closing of World Oyama Headquarters in 2004, he joined World Kanreikai Karate and was instrumental in the establishment of the Regional Headquarters here in Manhattan. He currently holds the rank of fifth dan in Kanreikai Karate. Shihan David has studied other martial arts as well, and holds the rank of second degree black belt in Zujitsu Ryu Jujitsu, a blend of traditional self defense combined with modern training and self defense techniques.  He brings this wide range of knowledge into his teaching at New York City Kanreikai, making his classes interesting to beginners and advanced practitioners alike.
